The end of the Woodsquat action saw VPD Chief Constable Jamie Graham commending the “unprecedented level of inter-governmental and inter-agency cooperation.” The response to 2002 protest and occupation of the Woodward’s building signaled a shift in how authorities and support agencies in the Downtown Eastside worked together. Not mentioned in this letter is of course the Portland Hotel Society, a non-governmental organization, who were contracted to house the squatters, and who helped to carry out the dismantling of the squat.
