Keep 6 is a CopWatch organized by the Anti-Poverty Action Committee. There are no dates on this brochure, though it is believed to be from the mid-1990s. Keep 6 was developed in response to increased allegations of harassment by police. At that time, it was speculated that more police resources were dedicated to the Downtown Eastside and East Vancouver to “sweep the streets of ‘undesirables,’” making those neighbourhoods more attractive for new developments. It is worth noting that the focus of this group, as outlined by the basic goals and strategies, was to empower the community with legal information and knowledge of civil liberties, and to keep a record of offending officers. It was not to directly intervene.
